Bookcase by the Sea Wednesday, Sep 7 2016

Today I went back to Seaford in East Sussex to visit John and the bookcase I made and installed a couple of years ago.

The bookcase was made in veneered and European oak in a natural oak lacquered finish, with fully adjustable shelves and scribed to the walls giving a  good close fit.

My clients in Sedlescombe also wanted to improve the cupboard setup in the breakfast room with shelving above, including space for the hifi.

The cupboard was removed and modified with a new top and bookcase with fully adjustable shelves, suitable access for the plug sockets and a clean fitted finish on all the wall meeting points. The piece as a whole was spray painted to an suitable colour.

T V unit / Window Seat in Natural Oak Finish Saturday, Oct 19 2013

This was an interesting project for new clients in East Hoathley, East Sussex, who wanted to combine a TV unit and  window seat beside their inglenook fireplace.

Combining oak and oak veneered board the frame was made and jointed with provision in the back to fully enclose the multitude of wires associated with the TV hardware.

The sliding door also made it possible to access plugs and sockets with little trouble.

This piece was to match a bookcase  made by us earlier in the year.

perfectly sited in between the two, a window seat with storage under. The Georgian architecture of the property was picked up in the mouldings and turned roundel details at the top of the units. The base set of units were 450mm (18″) deep and the top shelf units were set back to 300mm (12″).

This initial piece of furniture was commissioned back in 2005, recently we were called back for some more book shelving and these were the resulting pieces!

Fitted Oak Bookcase with Cupboards Incorporating a Kneehole Desk. Monday, Dec 27 2010

Clients from Herstmonceux, East Sussex required plenty of storage for books, computer, paperwork and craft supplies. Their room lent itself to a full wall of units,  as R and M had a very good idea of how they wanted it to look the design was arrived at fairly easily. The approximate overall size is 2.5m high (8′ 4″) X 3m wide (10′). The choice of finish is Light Oak.

The doors are constructed from European oak, the frames mortice and tenon jointed with central fielded panel and hung on Blum style hinges The lower section incorporates the knee hole desk in the centre with filing drawer inside the left hand pair of doors and shelf over. The cupboard to the right houses the computer and printer. The big concern was the excess heat and access for wiring, this was overcome with a removeable fielded panel with a discrete air gap at the top to the rear of the kneehole.  The end cupboards on both sides are storage with adjustable shelves. The book cases above have solid oak shelves, fully adjustable and suspended on magic wires.

The furniture is fully fitted around the skirting boards and scribed to walls and ceiling.

The other piece made was a display case for rosettes approx. 900mm high (35″) X 1500mm (5′) wide in Sapele with toughened glass front.

Natural oak study – filing cab

Mr and Mrs D. in Maidstone wanted a contemporary natural oak study to include bookcases, desk pedestals, filing cabinet and cupboard. The design incorporated the use of blue glass featuring on the bookcase ends and desk top.

The filing cabinet includes lockable drawers and stop allowing only one drawer open at a time. The top two drawers are set on quadro runners with push open catches. The fronts are all matched and set at the same overall heights.

Library in Natural Cherry Tuesday, Sep 28 2010

Cherry Library

Cherry Library

Clients wanted to fill two rooms with book shelves creating a beautiful reading area with the antique dining table nestling in between. The bookcases were constructed from a combination of solid cherry and cherry veneered board and polished without any stain prior to installation. Visiting the library after completion, the rooms were so quiet, it just goes to show how good books are as sound insulation.

Whether its a single free standing bookcase or several fully fitted bookcases, we can make the most of the available space.
